Earlier this month, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania agreed to the proposal of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport to allow the citizens of foreign countries, who have been admitted to study at Lithuanian higher education institutions, to come to the country.

The Ministry notes that the receiving higher education institutions are responsible for ensuring that all the health safety requirements related to the prevention of the spread of COVID-19, such as providing premises for self-isolation, the means and conditions for maintaining personal hygiene, people flow management, etc. are met.

“Although international students admission and the start of the academic year is full of challenges this year, we are very happy with the Government’s decision to allow international students to come to the country, as this will ensure the continuation of studies internationalisation in Lithuania. The University pledges to follow all the requirements of the Government and the recommendations of the National Public Health Center under the Ministry of Health for the prevention of COVID-19. Although comparing to the last year, less international students were admitted to KTU, this decision of the Government will enable us and other Lithuanian higher education institutions to maintain our positions in foreign markets”, says Dr Giedrė Šadeikaitė, the Director of International Relations Department at KTU.

For the newly admitted or the returning KTU students who need to stay in a recommended 14-days self-isolation after arrival, the University will provide accommodation at KTU Politechnika resort in Palanga; alternatively, these students may be accommodated in Kaunas, in the facilities, which can guarantee self-isolation, if the students agree to pay the set prices for their accommodation.

KTU will organise the transporting of the students to and from self-isolation accommodation and testing sites.

Before arriving in Lithuania, all the students are being informed about the current situation in the country, the self-isolation process and the consequences of not complying with the rules for self-isolating. During the process of matriculation, the timetables, dates and itineraries, and the student flows are being coordinated.
