The 20th International Scientific Conference “Chemistry and Chemical Technology 2026” Brought Together the Chemistry Community from Lithuania and Abroad

Important | 2026-05-25

On May 22, 2026, the 20th International Scientific Conference Chemistry and Chemical Technology 2026 (CCT2026), together with a parallel Student Scientific Conference, took place at the Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) Santaka Valley. The event brought together more than 250 participants, including scientists, researchers, lecturers, doctoral students, and students from Lithuanian and international universities and research institutions.

The conference served as an important platform for presenting the latest scientific research, discussing current trends in chemistry and chemical technology, and strengthening collaboration within the academic community.

The International Scientific Conference Chemistry and Chemical Technology 2026 continues its long-standing tradition of bringing together researchers, academics, and early-career scientists working across a broad range of chemistry and chemical technology fields. The 2026 event marked a special milestone as the 20th edition of the conference series.

This year’s conference was organized by the Faculty of Chemical Technology at KTU together with its partners: Klaipėda University, Lithuanian Chemical Society, Center for Physical Sciences and Technology, and Vilnius University.

Conference Dedicated to the Scientific Community and Academic Dialogue

The 2026 conference was also dedicated to commemorating the 100th birth anniversaries of two distinguished professors of the Faculty of Chemical Technology: Romualdas Baltrušis and Vaclova Zelionkaitė. Their scientific, academic, and educational contributions significantly influenced the development of chemistry, chemical technology, and higher education in Lithuania.

CCT2026 was a one-day international forum designed to present and discuss the latest scientific results, technological solutions, and current research directions. The program included plenary lectures delivered by internationally recognized scientists, oral presentations in thematic sessions, and a poster presentation session. The event provided opportunities for both experienced researchers and young scientists to present their work and discuss current scientific issues.

The parallel Student Scientific Conference was organized for undergraduate and master’s students, providing them with opportunities to present their research findings, develop scientific communication and public speaking skills, and become more actively involved in academic activities.

A Broad Spectrum of Research Topics

“This year’s conference focused not only on presenting research findings but also on involving different generations of the academic community. The program included plenary lectures, thematic oral presentation sessions, student presentations, and poster sessions,” says Dr. Tadas Prasauskas, Chair of the Conference Organizing Committee.

Three thematic sections were organized in the main conference based on the number of presentations, each featuring up to ten presenters on average. Seven thematic sections were organized for the Student Scientific Conference, with an average of up to fifteen presenters per section. Overall, the main scientific conference included 27 oral presentations and 81 poster presentations, while 104 oral presentations were delivered at the student conference.

The conference featured research on advanced and functional materials chemistry, chemical engineering, process systems and technologies, sustainable chemical and environmental technologies, bioactive compounds, biotechnology and food systems, applied and medicinal chemistry, electrochemistry, energy materials and sustainable energy solutions, as well as analytical chemistry and advanced characterization methods.

Participants from Lithuanian and International Institutions

Researchers and scientists from Lithuanian and international universities and research institutions participated in the conference, representing institutions including Kaunas University of Technology, the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Vytautas Magnus University, Klaipėda University, Tallinn University of Technology, the University of Warsaw, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Baku State University, Bukhara State University, and the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology.

The keynote lectures were delivered by six internationally recognized scientists: Jonas Baltrušaitis (Lehigh University, USA), Rasa Pauliukaitė (Center for Physical Sciences and Technology, Lithuania), Maris Turks (Riga Technical University, Latvia), František Šoukal (Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic), Vaidotas Kisielius (Aarhus University, Denmark), and Eugenijus Urnėžius (University of Portland, USA).

Awards for the Best Presentations

As every year, presentations at both the main international conference and the student scientific conference were evaluated by expert committees consisting of representatives from various scientific and academic institutions. Assessment focused on research relevance, presentation structure, graphical quality, professional language use, interpretation of results, and the ability to answer questions effectively.

The evaluation committees selected the best  presentations, and the authors were awarded prizes established by conference sponsors.

“Such events provide an opportunity not only to present ongoing research but also to learn about the work of other scientists, establish professional connections, and gain valuable presentation and discussion experience,” says Dr. Tadas Prasauskas.

Acknowledgements to Conference Partners and Sponsors

The conference organizing committee sincerely thanks the conference partners, sponsors, and everyone who contributed to organizing the event and establishing the awards fund for the best presentations.
