On Thursday, 16 November Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) management has given up their positions to students on the occasion of the International Students’ Day. This year, several companies led by KTU alumni, also followed the initiative and trusted their companies’ management to the students. 61 students have taken the up the challenge to become bosses for one day.

“The taking over of the management by the students is a great tradition, which allows the students to see the University’s inner life from close. For us this is the perfect opportunity to find out the KTU students’ perspective on KTU’s future, on the plans of higher education system’s reform in Kaunas, to talk about their ideas and to evaluate their proposals. Also, it is always a pleasure to see the young University leaders in action”, says Jurgita Šiugždinienė, the Acting Rector at KTU.

Her place on Thursday was taken by Gediminas Marcinkevičius. A temporary University leader is public administration master’s student at KTU Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities. Gediminas is also a current member of KTU Senate; last year he took the place of the Faculty Dean during the International Students’ Day.

Three international students – Roshan Shafi, Prathmesh Shah and Joe Paulson Raj Arppudharaj – were among bosses-for-a-day during the International Students’ Day. Roshan has replaced the Director of Finance Jūratė Čepaitienė, Joe has become the Head of Facilities Management instead of Svajūnas Jakutis and Pratmesh has replaced Neringa Narbutienė in the chair of Head of Department for Internationalisation.

“It was an incredible experience – I learned a lot and got advice for future. It was very interesting to get in-depth knowledge on how things work in a global organisation at offical level”, said Prathmesh Shah, impressed by the organisation and atmosphere of the event.
