Agne Lisauskaite from Jonava, knew from the 10th grade that she wanted to connect her life with natural sciences. After realizing in a later class that chemical sciences are the right field for her, she chose Applied Chemistry for her undergraduate studies at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Faculty of Chemical Technology (CTF). The alumna says that she became very interested in the science of medicinal chemistry while studying for a bachelor’s degree, so she had no doubts about choosing a master’s degree.
– Where and what studies did you complete?
– I completed my bachelor’s studies at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Faculty of Chemical Technology, Applied Chemistry study program. I completed my master’s studies in the Medicinal Chemistry program. Medicinal chemistry was a joint study program together with the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences.
– How did you choose to study at KTU? Was it the first wish? Or maybe the opportunity to dive into “unknown waters”?
– I chose to study at KTU because this university is one of the best universities of technology in Lithuania, famous for high-quality studies, research and teachers who are experts in their fields. It was one of my first choices, because during studies at KTU, students acquire not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills needed for a successful career.
– What were the biggest challenges during your studies?
– The biggest challenges while studying were dealing with workload, time planning and learning to work effectively in a team.
– What was the most interesting?
– I was very interested in participating in various scientific researches, where I could apply theoretical knowledge in practice and learn new things.
– What activities did you do after lectures?
– After the lectures, I attended the KTU national art ensemble “Nemunas”. This activity was a great way to enrich your cultural life, develop as a person and spend your free time meaningfully.
– How is the knowledge gained at the university useful in everyday and professional activities?
– The knowledge gained at the university helps me to quickly learn new things. In the work itself, it helps to apply already available knowledge by performing certain processes. Also, to work effectively with colleagues and solve problems.
– Briefly present your thesis. Why did you choose this topic?
– My thesis was related to the creation of new pyrazole derivatives containing quinoline and chromene fragments, and the study of their structure and properties. I chose this topic for my thesis because the named compounds can have potential applications in various fields such as pharmaceuticals, medicinal chemistry and functional materials. They also have biological activity and can be used as new medications.
– What are you doing now? What are your further plans in life?
– Currently, I work at the hospital of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Kaunas Clinics, Nuclear Medicine Research Center, as a radiochemist and quality control manager. The work is related to the production of radiopharmaceuticals and quality control studies. In the future, I plan to further improve my knowledge in the fields of radiochemistry and radiopharmacy.
– What influence did the obtained KTU diploma have on your career opportunities?
– KTU’s Medicinal Chemistry diploma contributed to my professional growth, as I had the opportunity to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and get to know professionals in my field. It gave me more opportunities in the job market and helped me achieve my career goals.
– The KTU diploma gave me a solid foundation and opened many doors on my career path. I am grateful for the knowledge, skills and experience I gained while studying at this university.
