“Erasmu BIP” – more opportunities for students

Important | 2022-11-17

The second year master students of Environmental Engineering study program supervised by assos. prof. Inga Stasiulaitiene and prof. Dainius Martuzevicius just finished Erasmus BIP course “Futuristic and Renewable Energy Sources”, (3 ECTS).  Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) combines physical and virtual learning. This program is implemented in cooperation with Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and Tallinn Technical University of Applied Sciences.

Aim of the course “Futuristic and Renewable Energy Sources” – to develop an understanding of the basics of alternative energy – preparation and supply of power, heat and alternative energy and energy technologies and solutions used in energy management.

The course consisted of virtual lectures during September and October and intensive study week in Helsinki on November 7-11, 2022. The international student groups had to identify two alternative methods to generate heat and electricity for the said buildings located in Helsinki. During the week they also listened to various lectures on solar, wind and other types of energy sources, visited companies ABB and Vantaa Energy.

“Blended intensive program is a great choice to try studying abroad, especially for the first time. Thanks to this course we could meet students from different countries, share our knowledge and ideas. We got not only scientific but also cultural experience and came back full of excitement”, – says master student of Environmental Engineering study program Gailė Pocevičiūtė.

“The lectures provided in both modes (distant & contact) were very useful. They mainly focused on the engineering aspects of energy generation methods which was very useful; instead of giving very general overviews. The tours were well detailed and informative. Furthermore, the destinations were well chosen in regard to the nature of the company, products, scale, and relation to the course; they were all related and connected. In general, such course is an opportunity that certainly modified my near future plans”, – says master student Ahmed Naeem Mustafa Elsherif Mahmoud.
