Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) is ranked 301-350 in the prestigious Times Higher Education Emerging Economies Rankings 2018 issued on 9 May. The universities from 42 countries were ranked; KTU is one of the only two Lithuanian universities in the Rankings.
This year’s Emerging Economies University Rankings include 378 universities, up from 300 last year. It uses the same 13 performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings, but they have been recalibrated to reflect the development priorities of universities in emerging economies. The higher education institutions from 50 countries were ranked, but only the universities from 42 countries made it into the Rankings. Vilnius University and Kaunas University of Technology are the only two Lithuanian universities in the prestigious THE EE rankings.
“Cooperation with business and internationality are the categories, which affect the overall score of the institution most significantly. Therefore, keeping our position in THE EE Rankings reveals the University’s input into developing international collaboration and improving the quality of scientific achievements, increasing our competitiveness in the international research community”, says Lolita Jurkšienė, Head of KTU’s Strategy Monitoring and Processes Office.
THE World University Rankings judge institutions on their teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
In THE Emerging Economies Rankings 2018 edition, China continues to dominate the ranking, claiming 63 – or one in every six – positions in the table, up from 52 last year. Peking University and Tsinghua University rank in first and second place respectively for the fifth consecutive year. India remains the second most-represented nation with 42 institutions, up from 27. It is topped by the Indian Institute of Science at 13th.
Fifty-one universities across 11 Eastern European countries make the ranking – up from 45 last year – but just three progress up the table.
