Self-assembling donor-acceptor materials for efficient electroluminescent devices

Project description:

Since organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) are widely used in display and lighting technologies, there is a growing demand for efficient organic emitters. Organic heavy metal free emitters exhibiting doublet emission or thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) are established as the very promising OLED emitters. Internal quantum efficiency of 100% can be theoretically achieved under electrical excitation using both doublet and TADF emitters. The aim of this project is the design, synthesis and studies of new self-assembling materials exhibiting thermally activated delayed fluorescence or doublet emission. The most effective new materials will be patented.

This research project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund according to the 2014–2020 Operational Programme for the European Union Funds’ Investments, under measure’s No. 01.2.2-LMT-K-718 activity “Research Projects Implemented by World-class Researcher Groups to develop R&D activities relevant to economic sectors, which could later be commercialized”.


Project results:

In the frame of the project, novel organic emitters will be developed using various donor and acceptor including stable free radical acceptor moieties, as well as alkyl chains with functional groups. Increase of charge carrier mobilities and/or emission quantum yields is expected for self-assembling materials with thermally activated delayed fluorescent or doublet emission properties. In addition, alkyl chains will provide an advantage in the fabrication of solution-processable OLEDs as they will improve the solubility and film-forming properties of the emitters The new materials will be used to develop environmentally friendly and viable electroluminescent devices with the simple structures and low production costs.
