The aim of the project is to evaluate the perspectives of the use of organisms obtained by novel mutagenesis methods in Lithuanian agriculture. The opinion and attitude of the consumers, farmers and food producers in respect of the use of transgenic products and products of novel mutagenesis methods are analyzed and compared after completing the survey of selected respondents. The data collected during the survey will be useful in formation the Lithuania’s opinion regarding the application of novel mutagenesis methods in agriculture and in making decision on the legislation of organisms or products obtained by novel mutagenesis methods in the EU market.

The knowledge about Lithuanian consumers, farmers and producers opinion and attitude towards use of transgenic products and products of novel mutagenesis methods will be obtained and recommendations on the application of new mutagenesis methods in Lithuanian agriculture will be made. As discussions on this issue are intensifying at EU level, Lithuania will need to provide a reasoned opinion regarding the regulation of new mutagenesis methods, and therefore the data collected during the study would be valuable in forming the state’s opinion to the use of new mutagenesis methods in agriculture and in making decision on the legislation of organisms or products obtained by novel mutagenesis methods in the EU market.
